When I am working with lyrics, the entire program goes extremely slow. At this rate, I could just write them in faster that the computer. I have noticed that the typing of the lyrics goes quite quickly, but when I hit space or hyphen to move to the next note, that is when it takes several second to move onto the next note. I've tried unchecking the automatic update layout option in preferences. It does not help.

For reference, I am working on (Mac) Version 25.2, and I am working on a 4 stave, 58 measure piece. This is not a complicated score.

Try restarting Finale; yours is not a typical problem.

You could also try typing your lyrics into the Lyrics Edit window and click assigning. That might be faster overall.

How much spare memory to you have on your "hard drive"?

My hard drive has 16 GB of memory, and at this moment, I am using 5.44 GB with Finale open.

I also tried the click assignment, and it was stopping and waiting a lot just typing them into the lyrics window. Then, I tried to click assign the first syllable, and it stopped responding.

A 16 GB hard drive sounds small; 16 GB would more likely be the amount of RAM (computer Random Access Memory). My question is whether your HD is nearly full. Most HD's are 500GB or multiple terrabytes (TB).

You are right. 16 GB RAM. 500 GB HD. It is near half full.
