Mac OS X El Capitan v. 10.11.6

iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011)

3.4 GHz Intel Core i7

32 GB 1333 MHz DDR3

Finale Version 25.2.0.79

I have added a trill over a half note in a cadenza. The measure has a hidden time signature of 22/4:

However, once I navigate away from this view, the smart shape trill automatically takes up more than the entire measure:

Any ideas how to fix this?

What is the time signature of measure 108?

You should be able to drag the right end of the trill and have it stick where you leave it. (But I have the feeling you already tried that.)

Does the staff have "independent time signature" checked? This is a well-documented bug. The solution is to enter the smart shape in another staff and then copy it over.

If the staff doesn't have an independent time signature, the "copy from another staff" solution, or from another measure, might help.

If you are really tearing your hair out, create the trill as an expression instead, with two instances of the wavy line glyph.

I wouldn't suggest using the articulation version of the trill, because I've had some problems with that, but you might have no problem with it.

I must say, I have had a bad time with giving cadenzas long, hidden time signatures. I generally make the cadenza a big tuplet (for a bar of 4/4, 22 quarter notes in the space of 4 quarter notes, for example) and hide the number and the bracket. Your problem only drives the problem home for me even more strongly.
