When trying to open a saved finale file just created I get this:

Cannot open file:

C:\USER\B03F4-1 WIP\AppData\Local\temp\FIN5AE.temp\META-INF\container.XML

What do I do to open the file?

thanks,

John

Did you create this file in 25 or an older version?

If older, what version?

What WinOS?

Hi John,

That actually sounds like the the file type .musx is not identified properly on your computer. We can usually reteach the computer to do this by trying a clean reinstallation of the latest version of Finale v25.

Those steps are a bit in-depth, so I will not post them here. I will go ahead and open a ticket for you to send those steps. If anyone else has this issue, please use the Submit a request link above to contact Customer Success.

I did create the file with Ver. 25 and had repeatedly worked on the file , saved it and so on... Anyway it's a mystery.

I cannot open my musx files in Finale 25. There is no error message, simply nothing happens.

If you are on a Mac, it is possible to load Finale v25 but still only have access to the Finale 2014 shortcut. You may have to delete 2014 in order to see the shortcut to Finale 25.

Can you export your files as XML files from F 2014 as a safety?

Deleting F 2014 should not affect your data files unless you drag the data (.musx) files to the trash when deleting F 2014. I do not keep data files in the same folder as the program files, so it did not affect me when I replaced F 2014.5 with F 25.

(Don't you have your Finale .musx data files backed up on an external drive along with your other data?)

I have uninstalled Finale14 and the results are still the same. Cannot do a thing with the music files, it says there is no application to open them. What if I reinstalled Finale14; maybe the other one got corrupted some how. I can use Finale25 with no problem but it only opens those files which were created with it over the past few months. All older files are un-openable.Need I say that my frustration level is at maximum. So sorry there is not phone support from MakeMusic. I'd even pay to get the problem solved. I'm stuck in purgatory here!

Have you  contacted MM directly using the "Submit a request" link at the top of this page? If not, this would be your next logical step.

(I have to say, I have never had a problem opening a Finale 2014.5 file in Finale 25. Have you opened Finale and then asked it to open your file, or did you double -click on your file to open it?)

Sorry you are having this problem.

I have contacted MM and have been working with a person. No help so far and the wait between correspondence takes days. I have tried every way under the sun to open them.

Wayland,  I just upgraded from 2014.5 to 25 using Windows 10 and I am having the same problem.  Cannot open any of my 2014.5 files in 25 or in 2014.5 now that I upgraded.   Seems as though the musx files got corrupted somehow during the upgrade.  I can create a new musx file in 25, save it, and it opens just fine.  Just not the 2014.5 files.

Have you gotten any resolution yet?
