I am running finale 2014 on a Windows 7 machine.

I regularly create smartmusic files of my band and orchestra pieces for my students to use in smartmusic.  I scan the score into finale and then create a new document and clean up the scan.

I have created a finale file of one of my band pieces.  When I export it to smartmusic the percussion sounds change.

The file sounds correct in finale.

How do I fix this?

Ex: snare changes to cymbals, bass drum changes to piano.

Thanks for any help!

Anne

Thanks for the post...  I have also posted on the forum.

I understand the simple percussion idea.... but it was changing my snare drum and bass drum parts.  That is definitely common percussion parts.

Hi Anne:

Just in case you didn't get help over in the SM forum. I'm assuming you're saving an SMP for use in SmartMusic Classic. I'm also guessing the problem is that your percussion isn't using the standard MIDI sounds including with SmartMusic SoftSynth. SmartMusic SoftSynth is the sound library used by both Finale and SmartMusic. If you set your score to use Garritan sounds, not included in SmartMusic, that is the root cause of the problem.

The good news is with Finale 2014.5, a free update for you, we added the ability to save the SMP with Audio, not just MIDI. In the Export SmartMusic Accompaniment dialog box, check "Include Audio (Requires "Play Finale Through VST") to have your percussion playback correctly with your cool sounds.

Hope this helps and thank you for all your work as a music educator
