For example, if you try to enter a note that won't fit into a measure (like a whole note into a 3/4 bar), you get a simple "error" chime. There's nothing inherently wrong with this, but the chime is usually quite a bit louder than the playback. When I'm wearing headphones and listening closely to the playback, the error chime is quite jarring and piercing. I get the error noise a lot due to my practices when composing so if it's possible, I'd love to know how to turn this sound off, or at least lower the volume.

In your Windows Audio Mixer, lower the volume level of "System Sounds". Should do the trick :)
