The selection tool is not working. I've tried various documents. It was working fine this morning. Just stopped. Help.

I just downloaded a new file from a composer. It had been created in 2014 and he converted it to 2012 (my v.). Now I can't select anything in any file.

I have the same problem. I have a score written with 2014.5 and parts extracted from it.  I edited the drum part and wanted to copy and paste it back onto the drum stave of the score.  Sometimes the selection tool will highlight a measure on the drum part but sometimes it will not.  When it will not, I quit and reopen Finale and sometimes it works.  After selecting and copying, I open the score to select the first measure of the drum staff.  It will not highlight so I can't paste.  I can never get the selection tool to work on both the drum part and the score so that I can complete the job.

Another issue that worked before but not today.  On the score, I have a measure that hides notes because the measure is not long enough.  I usually select the measure tool, click and drag the right hand box to the right.  Today, I can move the box but the measure length stays the same.  Only the box has moved.

The first thing to try when something like this happens - "it used to work, but now it doesn't" - is restart the computer. Not quit and restart Finale, restart the computer.

if tht doesn't help, trash the preference file. Instructions are on the Finale website.

Joe,

As long as you are using the Description Box in the Profile to tell us about yourself (kudos!), why not also add your version of Finale and computer operating system so you won't have to do it in the message text each time? It will help us help you.

I updated my profile but there seems to be a length limit.  Also, I can't edit my reply. I meant to say copy, not paste while on the the drum part.  I reset, not trashed  preferences but it didn't help.  Later for no reason, it worked.  Another issue I had on another chart regarding playback.  There was a measure with notes in the following order:  1/8, two 1/16, six 1/8's.  Playback just jumped over the sixteenths with no sound.  Option/Spacebar dragging, played the the sixteenth notes.  I tried many changes of playback options but I could not correct that performance.  Playback was set on MIDI and SoftSynth. Any ideas?

Joe,

We don't need your entire c.v.; a simple listing of your system and Finale version will suffice. See mine and Adrian's, as examples!

You should be able to edit your posts. In the lower right corner of your post, you should see a small gear icon and next to that, a triangle. The triangle will give you the option to edit.

I've noticed that sometimes, if you have multiple parts sharing notes, sometimes one or two of them just won't play. All you can do is make sure they are on separate channels. If they still don't separate, I just shrug. My need for Finale is 95% notation, 5% playback, so it really isn't that  crucial. You could always send those things in to tech support, and see if they come up with a solution.

Joe,

Are the sixteenths silent, or do they sound as if the preceding 1/8 is being sustained. If the eighth sounds as if it is persisting through the sixteenths, that is an HP situation designed to make notes sound legato in some instruments. Hidden staccato marks can often help ameliorate the problem.

Mike Rosen,

I emailed a long reply to Adrian and I thought you would want to read it.  So, I tried to paste it here for you to read but it seems to have exceeded the size limit imposed. So I had to delete it since it was incomplete.

Joe,

I have not seen your e-mail. (How would you have my e-mail address anyway?)

Best to say what you have to say (even if copied & pasted from your sent e-mail) here.
