Last month I upgraded to the new Finale version 25.  Might just be me but so far I'm not impressed.  My PC is dedicated to only music activities which includes Finale and Cubase programs.  I am running Windows 10pro.  I've been away from this PC for the past few weeks but this morning I opened a file I had been working on that I created in this new version of Finale.  I got a message that the VSTs were missing.  I went to VST Banks and Effects and there is nothing there available.  I reset the Finale preferences by removing the two ini files.  Now the default Aria VSTs are there which are what I used when I created this project, so I'm good there.  Now however the file doesn't play.  It gives a quick blip on the screen and after hitting play several times I can read that it's setting Human Playback or something.  But, the file never plays.  I then loaded up another project and it too doesn't play.  Also, back to the VSTs, everything is default which is the way my installation was when I first installed the updated Finale, but I also now do not hear any sounds when I'm adding notes in my score.

I think I want my old Finale back, it worked!  Disappointed!  Sad also that there isn't a phone # to call for help!

  • If you run Steinberg products (CuBase, Dorico) simultaneously, they may grab exclusive control of your audio engine; but I have to think that would not affect Finale playback every time you try it.
  • Remember that Finale v25 is 64-bit and is installed in its own folder (in the Program Files folder rather than the Program Files(86) folder as former versions and many of their support files were) so as I recall from when I installed v25, some pathways have to be reset, particularly to some of the add-on files (like GPO, JABB, GWI, as I recall).
  • You can "Submit a request" using the link above to get a direct link to MM Support (when they get back to the office Monday), which may speed a solution to your problem. I have no doubt MM folks want to get you up and running as quickly as possible.

Did you run the second installer in the download? If not, the latest Aria engine and Garritan sounds for 25 are not installed.

It it looks like you closed the installer window early. MM should fix that as it's not obvious that both have to be run.

Thank you both for your comments, I appreciate your time to offer help.  Mike, not sure about the second installer, there were 3 or 4 installation programs that ran after I initiated installation.  Everything worked correctly after the initial installation last month and I've really not used this PC since last month as I've been busy with work projects.  This weekend I've actually had some time I could spend working in Finale and/or Cubase and was looking forward to that, but that ended quickly.  Yesterday I performed an uninstall of Finale and the Garritan installs, then reinstalled again, no change.  It seams uninstall doesn't uninstall everything.  I did submit a request to MM support and am looking forward to their eventual response.  I hope to get this working as my brother will be here in a week and I'll be showing him my studio and in particular the Finale software.  He is a rich lawyer who is so cheep he is using some free notation software, I wanted to show off Finale and upstage him a bit.  Going to be embarrassing if Finale isn't working.

Just had a similar problem.  I think it has to do with reWire taking control. so Finale is waiting to get instructions from it instead of itself.  Mine just crashed because of whatever I did to try to reset it, so I am now reloading it, as you did.

I upgraded from Finale 2014 to 2017 and Finale won't open because of something missing in the system. The program won't start because api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0-dll is missing from my Windows 7 computer. I have reinstalled and nothing change.

If you are missing a .dll, you may have to load it from the MicroSoft web site.

Do you have the latest version of Win 7 (64-bit) on your computer? You may want to check for Upgrades.

I know I had to add a special .dll to install Dorico, but I do not recall having to do that to use Finale v25.
