Hi.  I'm using Finale v25.2.0.92 on Windows 10.  Whenever I use the Document Wizard to create a file in Finale, it won't automatically create multiple measure rests.  I have to go in and do them all manually myself, which is kind of the reason we have a notation software in the first place: to save time.  It doesn't happen when I create the document myself from scratch.  But, I mean, I paid for this feature, might as well use it!

Thanks!

The feature “Automatic Multimeasure Rests” is a document specific setting (not a program specific setting).

Obviously the Document Setup Wizard uses a template (Document Style) that has not generated multimeasure rests in the linked parts.

There is no need to “do them all manually”, since they can be created all at one fell swoop:

Edit menu > Multimeasure Rests > Create for Parts/Score…

To get the multimeasure rests updated (= broken) automatically as you enter music into the new document, go to

Document menu > Document Options > Multimeasure Rests

and select the option “Update Automatically”.

Warning:

“Update Automatically” will adjust the widths of all measures (not just the widths of multimeasure rests).

When you have finished entering music, and are working on the layout, you should probably de-select “Update Autiomatically”.

Peter, thanks for your reply.  However, I don't seem to understand what is required.  When I use the Document Wizard, I check all the settings that you suggest, including updating the rests automatically (everything is checked as you say) but I still get no multi measure rests.   This is not a problem when I just use the default document and add all the staves and names and whatnot manually.  Then, all the rests come out perfectly.  To be honest, this is one of the reasons that I updated from an earlier version.  I kept waiting for some kind of fix or update to the Document Wizard and one never came, so I updated to the latest version.  Is there any way that I can set up the program so I can use the Document Wizard and still get the multi measure rests?  I don't know if this is important or not, but once the music is all entered and ready to go, is use File > Extract parts to get the parts.  Is there some kind of setting in the Document Wizard that I need to fix?

Thanks!

[Update] I just did everything you suggested by using linked parts, and still the problem persists.  I have to make all the multi measure rests by hand.  Any help is appreciated.

[Update 2]  Oops, my bad.  I forgot the step about creating rests for the part/score.  Is there any way to have this done by default?  It seems silly to me that I have to tell the program to make multi measure rests, when it should be automatic.  Thanks again!

You could edit the Document Style template you select via the Document Setup Wizard.

In the template, create multimeasure rests for the linked parts - and save.

Hi, I'm running the latest Finale (25.4) on a MacBook Pro and am having the same problem. I tried creating a new file using setup wizard and went to the Edit menu did what you suggested and it worked.. sort of. Some of the parts had multimeasure rests where they should, but in other parts of the song, where there was a flute line for 8 bars, I should have gotten an 8-bar multi measure rest on the alto sax part but didn't. That's just an example. It mostly fixed the issue, though, but in older versions I did not have this problem.

You mentioned: "You could edit the Document Style template you select via the Document Setup Wizard. In the template, create multimeasure rests for the linked parts - and save." I don't see anything like that (multi measure rests) in the document setup wizard. I appreciate any help you can add to this.

The templates (= Document Styles) are not located inside the Document Setup Wizard, but rather in the folder Document Styles.

The wizard displays and uses the templates in the folder Document Styles.

You can add your own template(s) to the Document Styles folder - for use in the wizard.

To find the folder Document Styles:

(Open a Finder window)

Hold down the Option key, and go to

Go menu > Library

Finder will open the (hidden) Library folder in your Mac OS X user account.

From the Library folder, follow this path:

Library/Application Support/MakeMusic/Finale/Music Files/Document Styles
