I'm using Windows 7 and PrintMusic 2014a.v855 which I downloaded and authorized last month.

I'm using Simple Note Entry to add in drum sounds in a Drum Set line.

When I float the cursor over previously entered drum notes on the stave, it picks up the note details e.g. Floor Tom, Bongo etc come up near the note as text on the screen.

However, the program often doesn't remove the name when I move the cursor to other drums on the same line, and picks up the new name of each next drum and overlays it over the previous name. The result is a patch of overlaid drum names which quickly becomes unreadable.

The "garbage" produced disappears immediately if I scroll the screen.

Oddly, it doesn't happen in every measure - some measures with exactly the same drum pattern are free from the effect. It is most awkward when you have, for instance, chosen a drum beat & want to change it for a different one, in which case the drum name quickly gets completely covered in graphic garbage.

I'd attach the file only this forum doesn't have any facility for doing this.

I've just discovered that the overlaying occurs only if I move the cursor UPWARDS on the screen from below the drum line, into the drum line. Then it goes wild.

If I scroll the screen to clear the "garbage" and bring the cursor down from ABOVE the drum line, it all works properly until the cursor reaches the botton of the 5 note lines ( ? ) in the line, when the overlaying kicks in.

Jim,

Realize that by pulling down the Post Options arrow on your posts, you can edit and thus append additional info to an earlier post. You may find this particularly useful when you want to add something to a post no one else has yet seen or commented on.

Certainly having to negotiate around drum layout labels can be a pain at times.

Thanks Adrian, I'll try the Post Options next time.

Are you a MakeMusic employee?

Well, thanks very much for your suggestion.

I've now discovered a new problem: playback gradually lags the cursor and when it is a second or so late, playback becomes useless for error checking. Makemusic do not seem to have a fix for this, which seems odd. Songwriter 2012 never did this. *sigh*

The only solution I have heard for a disparity between cursor and playback has been when the Audio Setup sampling rate is set at a value other than Finale expects. With DirectSound, Windows (apparently) sets mine automatically at 48000. Some software uses 41000 or 96000; that is usually very high-end software.

I'm not sure that is what you are experiencing. Perhaps your fastest route to a solution is to contact a real MM employee via the "Submit a request" link at the top of this page.

Hi Adrian,

Thanks for your post. I'm reasonably computer literate but could not find where my Audio Setup sampling rate is set. I had a look at <Control Panel><Sounds> and also in PrintMusic. I can access what Reaper thinks it is; Reaper uses DirectSound at 44.1kHz. What does PrintMusic expect?

The User Manual https://usermanuals.finalemusic.com/PrintMusic2014Win/PrintMusic.htm#cshid=9501 accepts "sample rate" as a search term but does not do any searching, which of course is frustrating.

Songwriter 2012 , Reaper and all my other audio software are all working fine.

I have followed your suggestion & left a support request with MakeMusic, and will post here when and if a working solution come up.

Things improved when I removed the PCI sound card (C-Media) and reverted to the built-in sound system in the PC.
