I'm working on an orchestra piece for a client and in isolated sections the percussionist plays drum set. As such, the client has requested that I use the Percussion notation style for those sections. I've used Finale for 20 years, but I've never used this function before and am having trouble.

In the score manager, the percussion part in question has it's "Notation Style" set to Percussion. My problem is, I cannot disable the percussion noteheads (Xs, triangles, etc.) in the rest of the percussion part (when playing marimba or vibraphone, for instance). I have tried applying the existing "Normal Notation" Staff Style. I have tried creating my own staff style. I have tried manually changing the noteheads with the Utilities>Change>Noteheads function. None of this has had any effect. I CAN change noteheads individually using the Special Tool, but that's not practical.

Short of creating a new staff and hiding it when not in use, is there another solution?

Thanks

I would use the Change Instrument Utility switch between percussion instruments on a percussion staff. This works best for what you are wanting to accomplish. The percussion notation style and the percussion midi map can then be set for each change.

Thanks, Ted. Worked like a charm. There's always more to learn about Finale, haha.
