I already looked at videos on how to use a MIDI keyboard on Finale-- but my keyboard isn't being recognized.

Details:

MIDI Keyboard- Monoprice 606607 49-key Controller Keyboard.

Computer - Windows 8.1

Software - Finale Notepad 2012

Edit: This is solved. It turns out 8.1 disabled the use of Midi keyboards. Upgraded to 10 and it works just finale........ I'll go back to composing hehe.

Can your computer "see" your keyboard in other programs? Just checking to make sure

  • your MIDI cables are plugged in properly (unless your Keyboard has USB input). MIDI cables go "out" to "in" and sometimes folks connect the outs at each end.
  • your MIDI keyboard drivers are up-to-date
  • Notepad is configured to accept MIDI keyboard input.

(Since I do not use Notepad any more, I am just asking based on what full Finale would require.)
