How should I go about in creating this notation (picture)? I created the glissando as a tuplet (8 in 1) but after that: 1. I didn't find a way to enter the last quarter note (upper staff). | 2. How can I create some extra space after the glissando notes in the lower staff? Thanks!

I suppose that the final quarter note (a#) happens on beat 5 in a 5/4 time signature, right?

1) I am not sure why you can not enter the last beat in 5/4? We may need more info.

2) You wrote:

I am not sure why you need extra space; everything looks readable to me. We may need more info.

@Peter: I obviously forgot to mention a few important details, sorry: The attached example is not from Finale but from another program. And it is a 4/4 bar (therefore I couldn't find a way to add the A# quarter).

… it is a 4/4 bar …

In that case the final quarter is confusing and misleading.

Must you imitate the layout precisely?

I would modify the final quarter (A#), to make it clear that there are not five beats, only four.

Ideas:

1) Remove the stem so that only the notehead displays.

2) Resize the note to the same size as the glissando notes.

To make room for the A# I would

- make the A# a not displaying tuplet: One 4tr in the space of one 32nd,

- Make the eighth rest a not displaying tuplet: One 8th in the space of three 32nds.

We still need more info about your other question:

Thanks for your reply. Not neccessarily, however the original (Debussy) is printed in that way. I will try changing the A# in a 32nd. or at least make it appear small.

What info would you need for the extra space after the glissando? I need some space to connect the glissando notes to the A# with a line. Thanks!

@Peter: I think I already found a way to create extra space after the glissando notes. Thanks anyway!
