What sort of computer are you running (CPU, Memory, and audio interface)?

Does your audio card have adjustable buffers?

If so, make them bigger in small 16k or 32k chunks until your glitches go away.  What this does is give your CPU and other hardware a little extra time to crunch numbers and manage data.  The trade off is that  you'll get some latency when attempting to play along live with a MIDI controller.  If the latency is too bad to even mix well, then save the mixing until last...just render everything to pure audio tracks and then do the delicate latency sensitive mixing stuff last using smaller ASIO buffers.

Thanks for your help Brian.  I'm running a 6 Core AMD PC with 16GB or RAM.  I'm using a Roland Quad-Capture Interface using the WDM/KS Driver.

I've tried your suggestions and no matter how I increase latency and buffers I still have the same issue.  And the interesting part is that the problem gets worse with the amount of playback.  In other words, when the instruments are freshly loaded, I tend not to have a problem.  The issue also strikes at the same point in my composition affecting long sustained notes.  Not sure where to go from here.  I don't think it's an interface or driver issue.  I'm an OS Engineer by trade and this seems like the samples are being corrupted when in RAM.  Again it's odd.

This does sound strange....I once had something similar and it ended up being a pair of PNY SSD Drives (or their drivers) that simply hate streaming :(


Some obvious stuff if you have not already tried:
1.  If your interface is USB, try different ports, maybe a different cable.  Also make sure your Windows Power settings are set so these things do NOT go to sleep.


2.  If at all possible, try a different audio interface.  Even if it's just a set of USB headphones or something, at least you can rule out the Audio card if the issue persists.


3.  Double check that you've got the latest version of ARIA Player and engine.  You can check all that in the "Info" Tab of ARIA itself.  ARIA Player itself must be downloaded by logging into your MakeMusic Account and searching the support area for the latest version.  The ARIA Engine can be updated from the ARIA Info tab, or from here:  http://ariaengine.com/support/



4.  If you look at the Info Tab of an ARIA Instance, do you see any disk loss errors?  I ask this because I have a set of PNY SSD drives that refuse to stream well.  Moving all my sample libraries and anything that 'streams' off of these problem drives fixed all my head-aches.

5.  Can you track it down to a particular instrument, or does it seem to be any/all ARIA sounds at random?  I ask because there are some Garritan instruments with odd or broken loop points (Aboe D'Amore in GPO4 and 5, Some of the solo violin sustains, etc.).  If it does end up isolated to some particular instruments, the good news is that the loop points can be fixed in their relative sfz file.

6.  Do you happen to have a second DAW or scoring package you can run some tests in?  If not I think you can grab a free trial of Reaper long enough to run some tests and see if the issue gets duplicated there.


If you end up having the problem with more than one DAW/Audio card.


1.  Try installing the sample libraries to a different hard drive.
2.  Run a memory check.
3.  Check BIOS settings and try a Latency Monitor/Check.  Keep an eye out for any device drivers that sends lots of interrupts.  If you spot one and it's not critical to your DAW operation disable it when using the DAW.  If it is a driver needed to run the DAW/Hardware-that-goes-with-it double check that it's the latest version and/or try different clock schemes if your PC's BIOS allows.

You might check to see if the Cakewalk people recommend a particular title, or you can do a web search.

Well, I think I found the issue.  This is an old project I've been working on for years.  It was using the x86 version of Aria.  So it was constrained by running in an emulated x86 environment.  Created the instrument set and settings in a 64bit version and so far so good.
