I'm on Windows 10 with v25 of Finale.

My machine hung and when I rebooted and tried to reopen the file I was working on I get a series of errors and the file cannot be opened.

Here are the errors:

Cannot delete file "C:\Users\MyName\AppData\Local\Temp\mimetype" The system cannot find the file specified
Cannot delete file "C:\Users\MyName\AppData\Local\Temp\FIN8537.tmp\META-INF\container.xml" The system cannot find the path specified
Cannot delete file "C:\Users\MyName\AppData\Local\Temp\FIN8537.tmp\score.day" The system cannot find the file specified
Cannot delete folder "C:\Users\MyName\AppData\Local\Temp\FIN8537.tmp\META-INF\
Cannot create file "C:\Users\MyName\Documents\Music\Finale\NameOfMyFile"

If I look in Windows Explorer, the .musx file is sitting there in its proper location but all the temp crap in the AppData folder is not there. With previous versions of Finale I was able to use .bak files but I don't see those any more.

This file was created natively in v25.

Any ideas?? Man, I hate to lose all this work.

your .bakx files should be in a folder with this file path C:\Users\UserName\Documents\Finale Files\Backups

You should try resetting your preferences also.

I have not encountered any of those errors before so I can't help you out with that (hopefully someone will chime in who does), but if some integral files for running the program are missing, you may want to try reinstalling.

Thank you, George! The .bakx file did the trick.

They used to be stored along side the original file so I didn't know where they had been moved to. In the last 10 years I rarely have Finale crash and even less frequently have a corrupt file (unlike back in the 1990's!).

All other files are working fine - it was just that one file, so I don't think I will need to reset preferences nor reinstall.

Now I know! Thank again!

I am experiencing the same error, also with Finale 25 and Windows 10, and on a file on which I did a lot of work yesterday. I am going to try and rescue it with the backup file now.

I am very relieved that I was able to recover most of the work!

I'm glad this thread was able to help you too, Nanette! Hats off to George!

I've been a Finale user since 1990 and in the old days computers crashed a lot more than they do these days so I used to have to recover using .bak files frequently. Nowadays, both computers and Finale are a lot more stable so I haven't haven't had to use a backup file for recovery for probably 10 years. Thanks to George for tellin where they are stored now since they used to be stored right alongside the main file.
