When importing a MIDI file into Finale, I've noticed that when it creates the staff names from tracks, it only does so as a "Full Name" and not an "Abbreviated name." Is there any way to make it import as both Full and Abbreviated names?

If not, does anyone know a quick way to copy the Full Name of a staff into the Abbreviated Name field? Thanks.

Hello Michael,

Finale does not usually import the abbreviated name. The good news is that for a quick copy you can go to the Score Manager (Command+K, or Ctrl+K), click on Full Name select the text, command+C to copy > click OK > click on Abbri. Name > click in the text box > type Command+V to paste.

Another solution is to make a template score file using the setup wizard with the exact instrumentation you have in the MIDI file. Copy the MIDI file import into this template and you'll have your abbreviated names in place.
