Hello!

I haven't found a way to remove some rests from cross staff measures and at the same time leave them in measures that are specifically intended.

See sample:

Both staffs are treble so both left and rights hands are playing in treble clef. In the third measure, the right hand has a tie and the left hand has a whole rest. All is still in treble.

I haven't found a way to remove the rests in measures 1 and 2 and not in 3. I'm assuming because both hands are in treble, then the whole rests are automatically added.

  • Should I leave the rests as is?
  • What other ways may I approach these cross staff rests?

These whole rests are - in “Finale-speak” - called Default Whole Rests.

Actually there is nothing there - the measure is empty.

Finale just displays a rest in the empty measure.

You can hide these Default Whole Rests with a custom staff style.

First you have to create/define the staff style:

Next, select the desired region, and apply your new, custom staff style to the selected region.

Or, you can enter a "real" rest (quarter rest for example) and then hide it.
