I recently upgraded to Finale version 25 for windows. I was hoping you had fixed this problem, but apparently it was not changed. Is there a way to fix the default settings in the edit staff attribute 'items to display? I arrange music for a small ensemble of flute, violin clarinet, trumpet, horn and euphonium. Every time I print out parts, I notice that the measure numbers and the endings and repeats print into the flute, violin and horn parts, but the clarinet, Trumpet and euphonium are always missing. If I forget to check the boxes for those three instruments, they are always struggling to write it into the music at rehearsals because they have no measure numbers or endings or repeats. Is there a permanent fix for this? I hate to have to go into staff attributes to fix these 3 every single time I write an arrangement.

I would make a template for this instrumentation, making sure it is set up properly. When you want to start a new piece, duplicate the template file and start working on that copy. I don't know why the files you're using have the wrong settings, but making your own personal templates will assure you that any new projects start out correctly.

I cannot find anything that tells me how to set up a template. When I originally set up this group of instruments, I set up a custom group of piano, voice, and these six instruments. But the custom group has been missing these repeats & measure numbers for years. There doesn't seem to be a fix or anyway to make a permanent template unless I write over a pre-existing piece of music, which makes for a lot of other problems.

To make a template, get one of the files that you would normally use to start a new piece with your special instrumentation. Open the file and fix the "items to display" problem that you mention. In addition, make any other changes that you would like to see when you start a new piece. Save the file - this is your template. Store the template(s) in a dedicated folder on your computer and back it up to a location off the computer, like a backup thumb drive.

To use the template, duplicate the template file, name it with the title of your project and get to work.
