Hello!

Using Windows 10, Finale 25. I do quite a few custom ensembles (tin whistles and recorder groups for example) and am wondering how to customize the Setup list so I can preset these instruments, their custom transpositions and clefs, and the output sound they will be played with. As of right now, every time I write a great bass recorder part, I have to pick the part, and in the file manually change the clef, transposition, and output sounds to get the playback that I want for the great bass.

This could also be said for more common setups, such as an orchestra trumpet section. I have a set of three trumpet sounds that I always use for my orchestra trumpet section, but from the setup wizard they all default to "Trpt Player 1" and I must manually change the playback in the file. This would also help in percussion mapping as many instruments don't sound properly being set from the wizard.

Can I make a custom instrument from name, transposition, clef, output sounds etc and load a custom set into the setup wizard so I can save the time doing this process manually for every single file? I have tried a template method, and it still takes as much work as my specific instrumentation varies from piece to piece. Thank you!

I think not. Years ago, the preference files could be edited, but a few versions back, the format was changed and it's no longer possible.

I could be wrong, though. Why not send in a question to tech support? Us the Submit a Request link at the top of the page. You could also use the feature request part of this forum.

Jamison,

Your best bet is to create and save a Finale template with the instrument setup you want for your special, repeated projects.

Then in the Aria Player create a corresponding custom Ensemble to pair your desired instruments with the MIDI slots you have assigned to them in your Finale template.

The OP said he didn't want a template. If he uses different combinations of his custom instruments, I can see why having them available in the Wizard would help.

Mike,

You are right, of course, but then I think: I can tell my accountant I don't want to pay taxes and then ask how to keep the government off my back, and she says....

(you can guess the rest)
