Out of the blue, 25.4 starts to crash.  Fortunately it makes a backup. But the dialog box says, "Finale encountered an error and will shut down." Nothing has changed since yesterday, but now the program won't run.  Any ideas what is causing the problem?

Try restarting your computer.

I had the same problem on Windows 10 one week after I installed the 25.4 update. Fin25 started up fine, but when I opened a file, Finale 25.4 always crashed and said "Finale encountered an error and will shut down."  - even when opening the default document.

Then I restarted the computer and afterwards everything worked fine again.

Weird behaviour, but restarting the computer seems to be the solution.

I had the same issue. In my case, the software for the Oculus Rift that I no longer use caused the issue (probably because of the headphone driver being installed but with nothing connected).

For me, the error only occurs immediately after I export a file to WAV.  The export is always successful, so I've gotten into the habit of simply exiting Finale at that point.
