How do you know or control how long a ritard entered by the expression tool will last? I have a ritard that comes in the middle of a score and it must affect one measure only, then return to the previous tempo.

Put an a tempo at the start of that next measure. Otherwise, the rit. will continue.

Okay, I can add an "a tempo."  But can you control the length of the ritard?  What if I wanted it over 3 measures, or 2?  I can't see anywhere to do that.

Enter the ritard; then set a target tempo (visible or hidden) where you want it to end.

You can also use the MIDI tool to adjust tempo changes more precisely, but there is a learning curve to that process.
