Im working in Finale 25 on a MBP and doing a score for a brass band. I'm going along just making my articulation edits, when all of a sudden the next time I play back the music everyone has gone out of tune and just sounds plain awful. What the heck happened??? The keys have stayed constant and are correct for each instrument transposed or not... Is there some keyboard shortcut I accidentally triggered to have everyone suddenly sound completely detuned?

I wouldn't know what to suggest as I would be guessing.

My first guess:

Are there any glissandi in the score?

There is one pitch slide towards the end of the score on one stave, but now everything is out of whack from bar one..

Glisses and pitch bends can do that to a Finale File.

Quit Finale, relaunch and reopen File, should be fine.

Until next time.

Repeat as needed!

It's annoying but not fatal.

Doesn't matter where in the score it is, it will be goofy from bar 1.

You can remove the offending glass/bend until the last minute

to prevent it from  happening until you're done.

That's happened in finale 25 though? I rebooted and reopened and from bar 1 again all wonky and detuned... or do I now have to delete it and reboot for it to work? That's gonna be annoying to have to put pitch bends and glissandos in last and not hear playback with them anymore...

Try restarting your computer.

Usually Glisses are fine, but do go wonky.

Hi Jonathan,

Another thing that could be happening has to do with a MIDI keyboard. If you are using one, Finale can sometimes receive errant pitchwheel data from the keyboard over time.

You can test this by saving a new version of your file (just for testing purposes; use File > Save As), opening the newly saved version, disconnecting any MIDI devices you have connected, choosing MIDI/Audio > Reassign Playback Sounds, and testing this file.

If the file doesn't go out of tune, then your MIDI keyboard may be sending pitchwheel data to Finale for some reason.

Hope this helps!

Took out the pitch bend and still didn't fix the problem. Made a new chart and copy/pasted in the parts one at a time and played back fine. Problem solved I suppose, I hope they can fix that bug so I won't have to do that every time.

Thanks team, appreciate ya.

FYI same problem since I can remember in all the versions and now in V26.  Sometimes I have to cut and past the score into a new staff.  You don't have to cut and past the individual staves - just all at once.  I hope there is a simpler solution to this - I'm checking it out.
