I hope I'm not the only one, but ever since the latest Window 10 update about two days ago (think it's called the "Creator" update) I no longer get any playback in Finale 2014.5.  When I click o playback, there's an eighth note displayed in the first measure but it doesn't move.  Yes, the volume on my PC is up because all other audio functions work.  Not sure if this would be called a "crash", but I can't close any Finale files until I press the 'stop' button for playback.

I went through the troubleshooting steps to make sure everything was set right, and it looks like it is.

Please help.  Thank you.

Found the problem...

Evidently when "Mr. Softy" updated my PC to the 'Creator' version of Win10, they re-installed a USB Fax Modem driver I don't need.  It's called, 'Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device'.  Once I disabled this driver Finale playback worked again. I checked that my FaxModem still worked okay, then I uninstalled it.  Microsoft can really mess things up at times.  Ahhhhh!

I hear you.  I always dread MS patch day...........I've got several 'unsigned' drivers....and sometimes the updates decide it's a good idea to delete them all :(  Really my biggest pet peeve is how it keeps calling things 'security updates', but it reinstalls and enables all the spyware and bandwidth sharing mess that it possibly can, along with drop boxes and on and on.....ugg...sick of having to re-do all that after most of the 'bigger' updates.

I hate that MicroSoft in their thinking that they know better than the PC's user...

After uninstalling the device driver, "Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device", Windows10 re-installed it!  I've uninstalled twice, and this morning after booting up it it's re-installed again.  I'll have to find out why this is happening and who or what is "calling home" so to speak. In the meantime I've just disabled it in hopes it won't get reinstalled since it's present, but now disabled.  Checked my USB fax function and it works just fine.  Very weird.

That driver is dated 1999 so pretty old.  I tried to update the driver and MS says it's the latest available. I was assuming this driver was for my USB FaxModem but now not sure.
