I have set up my score to always have a countoff of one measure during playback. I also have set up playback to begin at the current counter.

When I start playback at the beginning of the score, I hear the countoff just fine. But if I set the counter to say, measure 5 and begin playback there is no countoff click. However there appears to be dead silence for the length of the countoff.

Is there any way to get the click during countoff to always sound regardless of where the playback begins?

Thanks,

Frank

You can add a separate staff with your click added and then hide it for printing.

Thanks, but I was hoping to get the click only during countoff, not the entire piece.

So only notate the click (Clave sound seems to work well) in the added measure before the rest of your music begins.

Hmmmm.....maybe I don't understand what you are saying, but I'm using Finale to play along for practice. That means I could start at any random measure where I think I need to work. If I understand you correctly, I'd need to start with a blank percussion stave, then when I decide where I need to practice, notate a clave sound. Then when I need to go on to another part, erase that clave sound and put it in the new spot.

That's not very practical. That's exactly what the countdown is meant to do and it does as long as you start at the beginning. The fact that it still delays playback when you start anywhere else, but produces no sound during that time, seems to be a bug to me. Or maybe there's a setting I overlooked.

In any case, adding another stave and notating/erasing a coutndown would seriously impact practice.

No, I misunderstood exactly what you were trying to accomplish.

I also want to have a 2 measure count off and play a section of music.  This did what it was supposed to do back in Finale 2012, but disappeared with Finale 2014.  I can have a 2 measure count off at the beginning of the music, but if I wanted to start at like the 5th measure, count off doesn't work.  This has been reported numerous times over the last year or so. The tech guys reported it as a bug,  So far NOTHING.  I should not need to add a percussion stave if only working in the Finale program.  Maybe if more people report this issue, the programmers will do something about it.

>> Yet apparently no one has posted this issue as a Feature Request on the Feature Requests forum

Why would it be necessary to submit a Feature Request for something that is already acknowledged by Finale as a bug?

Hi All:

I interpret Frank's request as an enhancement to current functionality. That does belong on the feature request community so we can hear from others on the value of that additional functionality.

I interpret Linda's issue as a loss of functionality, which is a defect and has been acknowledged by my colleagues.

These are 2 different issues.

Finally, Frank, you might want to consider trying SmartMusic, which is a practice application that provides the functionality you desire. You can import your Finale file via MusicXML into the New SmartMusic. Instructions here and you can export your Finale file as an SMPX file into the Classic Smartmusic. Instructions here.
