Finale 2014.5 on Windows.   Handbells template.  Using layers on a staff, I wish to use different dynamics for each layer.  For instance, the melody may switch from one layer to another, but the playback acknowledges the most recent dynamic expression and applies it to all layers.

I use hidden accents to bring out the melody in handbell charts.

I'm still seeking a solution. What tool, what sequence, what tab, etc.  I need very specific instructions.  Thanks.

I think what you have to do is put each layer in a different playback channel. Use the Score Manager for that - see the attached picture.

 

When you enter the dynamics, make sure you enter them in the proper layer: Go to the Expression Tool Menu and make sure "Favor Attachment to Active Layer" is checked and make sure you are in the proper layer when you enter them.
