I have an editor who has asked to use both A and C below as our default options for eighth note beams with rests in the following two situations:

However, when I toggle Document Options>Beams>Include rests when beaming in groups of four, it groups A/D together when it is unchecked or B/C together when it is checked. Is there a way I could get A and C every time without having to go back and manually edit each one?

I know of a couple ways to do this manually, but it is always more consistent (and faster) when it can be set as a default or have a plug-in that can get all instances.

Thanks for this. It is the same in 25 as you mentioned. I know how to do it manually; I was just hoping for a way to have the default set or perhaps a relevant plugin that would let me do it all at once. Everything I can find in document options either beams them as one beat (A/D) or 2 beats (B/C).

Does your editor know that what he's asking for contradicts standard engraving practices?

I believe so. I looked it up in Behind Bars (Gould) and didn't see a clear argument for one way or the other. Perhaps I need to revisit.
