When I import a MIDI file or use Hyperscribe Finale defaults to flats.  If I set the key signature to, say, A major: 3 sharps and play a B major chord, it notates it as B-Eb-Gb.  What?  I have to go through the entire score and edit this.

At first I thought it was note number info contained in the MIDI file, or the keyboard, but when I opened it in Cubase's score editor, it notated as B,D#,F#.

I'm sure there is a way to set Finale to default to sharps or flats, but I can't find it.

What Am I doing wrong?

Unfortunately I am unable to duplicate this problem.

I began with a MIDI file in A major (3 sharps), containing a B major chord: B, D#, F#.

Then I opened the MIDI file in Finale.

In the dialog box {Import MIDI file Options} I set the key signature to A major, and Finale correctly notated the chord as B, D#, F# - where the F# did not require a note accidental, because of the key signature.

I suppose that we need more info from you, like the exact steps you are following when opening a MIDI file in Finale.

I would suggest looking at the options available in the Enharmonic Spelling sub-menu of the Edit menu.
