Windows 7, Finale 25.4

I notice in 25 that every time I try to add on a new Assign To Staves, one of my existing ones gets renamed or erased. I am not, as far as I can tell, doing this myself. Just clicking on NEW, giving the new set a name, indicating the staves  I want, and clicking OK. At which point I get the new set, but one of the former ones either vanishes or gets duplicated or renamed. Any way to stop this?

How many sets do you have?

I had "Tutti" and "Strings". When I tried to add "Brass" and "Winds", the program changed my "Tutti" to "Brass", giving me two "Brass" assignments, plus the Strings.

Hi Edward:

That isn't my experience in Win 10 running Finale 25.4.

  1. I opened a full Orchestra score.
  2. Click on measure 1 to add FF expression
  3. Chose "Assign to Staves...' in the dropdown next to assign
  4. Gave the "New Assignment" the name of Tutti
  5. "Checked All Staves"
  6. OK -- and see FF in all
  7. Clicked on another measure and selected mf
  8. Chose "Assign to Staves...' in the dropdown next to assign
  9. Clicked the "New" button to create another list and named it WW
  10. Checked all my woodwinds in the Assign to Staves dialog
  11. OK and see mf in my WWs
  12. Clicked on another measure and selected mp
  13. Chose "Assign to Staves...' in the dropdown next to assign
  14. Clicked the "New" button to create another list and named it Brass
  15. Checked all my brass in the Assign to Staves dialog
  16. OK and see mp in my Brass
  17. Clicked on another measure and selected p
  18. Chose "Assign to Staves...' in the dropdown next to assign
  19. Clicked the "New" button to create another list and named it Strings
  20. Checked all my Strings in the Assign to Staves dialog
  21. OK and see p in all my strings

How are your steps different?

Michael, given that this was an issue endemic on my system to 25, which I've now uninstalled due to the still unresolved file corruption issue, I can't really say. I've never had this issue with a prior iteration of the software. But I'm 99% sure these were the steps I was taking, as these are the steps I've been taking for years.

Thanks for the update, Michael. Given the endemic issues for Windows 7 with documents being corrupted, which I don't believe has been solved (or if it has I haven't been notified), I am not risking any version of 25.

Hi Edward:

I'm not aware of an "endemic issue for Windows 7 with documents being corrupted". Please work with Customer Success to triage your case and resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

Hi Edward,

We released 25.4.1 last week that fixes the problem. I'll see that the blog post is updated with that info.

You can download 25.4.1 from here or from within the app.

Probably wise, Michael. However, given my experience with the .4 update, and MM's inability to address it, and the three days of work it cost me, I am not in a hurry to incorporate any further updates on the program. Fool me once, etc etc.
