I am really struggling with the formatting of a new score. I'm writing for choir, and I know I'm missing something simple here. I'm hiding staves when they are blank, and am writing in open score. If the altos don't have a part, I'm hiding their stave on that page... But the issue is that those hidden keep reappearing. So I'll go through the process of getting rid of all of the empty staves again and formatting the score so the text is in the right place... But what a tedious job each time!! So today I have a soloist coming in and I agian went into my score to find out that there were 30 additional pages.. And a lot of hidden staves reappeared again!!

I had thought that I had this issue solved when I started saving the score under "save all" instead of "save". But now it's again turned into a nite mare and I know I'm missing something... Please help!!!

First, please tell us what version of Finale you are using and what computer operating system. You can put that in the info box of your profile/signature files via the pull-down behind your name in the gray band at the top of the screen.

Most users find it easiest to enter all notes and the like first (many use scroll mode for this), and only then deal with formatting (hiding/optimizing staves and the like). Yes, if you hide a staff and then continue work, it may reappear.

Yes, I'm on Finale 2014.5 and Windows 7 Home premium.

As JAV said, it's best to work in scroll view. Once you have your notes and lyrics in place, then it's time to go to page view and start formatting, fron to back.
