I'm posting here and on the Digital Performer and VSL sites as well. Not sure who should be asked this question.
I want to use the Aria plug in to set up a channel within Vienna Ensemble Pro 6. I know how to do this, but the plug in does not respond to midi at all. If I create an Instrument Track in DP and assign it to Aria Player, everything works fine. All other plugins work in VEP6 just fine. Has anyone else found that Aria Player has issues with VEP6? Not sure where the problem originates...could be DP9, Aria Player, or VEP6. My money is on the Aria Player (I'm running the newest versions of the player and the engine).

Hi Paul!

I dont have any answers but I am curious to know if you managed to get multi out (audio) from Ariaplayer
loaded into VEP? Myself can only use out 1/2 in Ariaplayer when loaded into VEP....every else of the
outputs in Ariaplayer is greyed out.

I don't have VEP, but I do have an 'idea'.

Sometimes I find it easier to work with individual instances on a per-track basis rather than messing with a rack-mode multi-timberal plugin like ARIA.  I.E.  Each 'instance' gets its own fresh audio stream, and works in an omni-channel mode.

In such cases I'll elect to host my Garritan Libraries in Plogue's sforzando player instead of ARIA.  Sforzando uses the same engine as the Garritan Customized variant of the ARIA Player, but it has a simpler single instrument interface.

Loading multiple instances of sforzando does not require much, if any more system resources than a single instance of the ARIA player in multi-output mode (memory is shared by all the instances by the ARIA engine).

So, if you continue to have trouble hosting ARIA to satisfaction in something like VEP, it might be more in-line with your workflow to opt for sforzando instead.  It is a free download, and it works with all registered Garritan Libraries.

As for getting ARIA to work properly in VEP, it should be doable.  I use ARIA in a wide variety of hosts and haven't run into any issues where ARIA was not properly following VST/ATX/AU protocols.

In Cubase, I have learned that I do have to let CuBase know that I want the extra ARIA outputs connected before they will do anything.  In this particular DAW, that essentially means assigning the outputs to the mixing matrix (create a bus on the console).

In Bidule, which to me servers a similar role as VEP, I must also manually connect the ARIA outputs to a mixing matrix before I can hear anything.

In Sibelius or Finale, multi-output plugins are not recognized or supported at all.  When I really want to isolate instruments for independent effect chains, I simply use multiple Instances of ARIA or sforzando.

In Dorico, simply launching the multi-output version of ARIA always gets 16 stereo outputs (32 audio channels) on the mixer by default.  From there I must assign each instrument slot in ARIA to which ever output or 'mixer fader' I want in Dorico.

Perhaps someone at Plogue, with personal experience using VEP could be far more helpful.  I recommend checking out their community forum.  It has been an extremely helpful forum for me in the past when dealing with anything Plogue related.

Thanks, Brian.

I read about Sforzando in another post somewhere. Certainly worth a try.

Aria and VEP6 don’t always work well together. (It’s the only engine that I’ve found is problematic so far). Thanks again for the tip.
