For me, opaque expressions do hide rests.

We need more info.

If we had an actual Finale document to examine, then we could probably quickly find the culprit.

Unfortunately you can not (yet) attach a Finale document here (using the Zendesk forum software), but you can upload a document elsewhere, and then here add a hyperlink to the document.

You can e. g. attach a Finale document in another Finale forum that allows attachment of Finale documents.
