I am puzzled how I can change the fonts simply. I have set my text font to garamond. Yet, my PDF is full of Times New Roman PS MT.

I have done Document>Data Check>Font Utilities and done change the Times New Yuk to Garamond yet it's still there. I have gone to the Document Settings|Font and have gone through every combo box selection and changed Time New Yuk  and it's still there in the PDF.

Is there some simple way, such as in InDesign's Find Font, to get rid of and change all unwanted fonts.

PDFs only print the correct fonts if they are 1) installed on the printing computer, or 2) embedded within the PDF itself. (There are some fonts out there that do not allow you to embed them, but I haven't seen many of them.) Otherwise, PDFs are specifically designed to substitute standard fonts for the ones it cannot find. I am uncertain how to do this with Finale's "export to PDF" function. I use a print-to-file PDF-printer and never have these problems. Once upon a time, this was mainly a problem with Window's default postscript settings, but these days I don't know…

These fonts are all installed on my machine. I do a lot of desktop publishing. One odd thing is that I see the same fonts listed repeatedly in the PDF created by Finale.

My next production step is to place the PDFs into an InDesign document (that adds the written stuff and page numbers). When I create the indesign book, the duplicate fonts get stripped off.

If I look at the document properties in Acrobat, the PDF file from Finale has Garamond Roman shows up 38 times in the font list!!!!!! When I run the whole thing (several final PDFs) through InDesign, it shows up once.

Ok, but what OS — it can make a difference.

Are you using Garamond,  Garamond Premier Pro, Adobe Garamond Pro or ?

If Garamond, where exactly is it installed on your system and what version?

I was using Adobe Garamond Pro. Now I have switched to Adobe Caslon Pro. It is installed system wide "Computer". I don't have the version number. It does not appear to show up in Font Book.

Application fonts can be stored many places but if not in Library/Fonts, it may not be available to other apps. If it doesn't show up in Font Book.app, it's pretty much a given that other apps cannot use it.

Nope. That is not how the Mac OS works. Adobe fonts are often available to Adobe applications only. That appears to be the case here.

If you find the font, open it. Click on Install. You may have to grant permissions — do so. This will install a copy into  Library/Fonts (the original will be untouched) and it should now show up in Font Book making it available to other applications. Sometimes, this doesn't work — if so, switch to a non-Adobe font.

The physical location is /Library/Fonts . I use them with all kinds of applications.

Hmmm... you never answered what OS nor what version of the font. The version of In Design might be important, too.

My only other suggestion is to use a non-Adobe font.

Since I am unable to contact the "other" Finale list any other way than to post here and hope Mike reads this....

How can I (as a long time user of "the old list") use the new list? I have forgotten my user name and password I setup on the new site and there seems to be no way of contacting the admin for help and the process to reset requires one to know both the user name and the email which is impossible in my case and rarely seen anywhere. I know my email :-)

I'm not understanding.

The old official site is archived — you can read only but no one can add or post.

This is the replacement site. True, it leaves a lot to be desired including organization threads by topic, combining duplicates, ability to post files etc.) and a moderator but it is what it is. MM Support sometimes looks in and helps — we always like it when they do, of course.

Anyone with Community Expert as part of the signature is a user — we are not affiliated with MakeMusic or Finale in any way. Community Expert is just a way for MM to acknowledge that we post a lot and often know what we're doing. We have varying levels of expertise and experience and learn as much from each other as we give.

For direct access to MM Support or Sales, use the Submit a request link at the top of the page.

There are a number of unofficial Finale sites — none of those are affiliated with MakeMusic.com or Finale. I and others belong to finaleforum.com — it has the ability to host small test files, BTW. I do not browse any of the others but cannot speak for anyone else.

Sorry I'm talking about your forum that you created and referenced in this thread, finaleforum.com. Are you not in charge of that site? There is no way to contact the administrator on that site to resolve issues unless you are signed in. Hard to do that if you don't know your info.

I am just a member at finaleforum.com. I did not create it nor am I an administrator. In fact I rarely visit it more often than once a week.
