I have noticed that a number of Finale features do not work well with grace notes, including:

 

1. Part separation

2. system implosion

3. Piano reduction

4. Grace notes on separate layers in the same system.

Why do grace note cause such problems?

Adrian, it is different things. In system implosion and piano reduction, the grace notes go away and become clunkers with the next note. In part separation and layers, yes, it's the spacing.
