Hi everybody!

I've got a problem with my Finale v25 on Windows 11. When opening the program, just it freezes before showing the Wizard Setup, it just freezes. It doesn't show up anything, it freezes there before I close it. I've been trying to see if it could be some conflict with the new updates of Windows, a thing that happened before a couple of times and I used to fix it by undoing the new updates, but it doesn't work anymore. Also, I've been using this version on this laptop for about 8-9 months, and as I said, the problems I got were easily fixed.

The specs of the laptop are Windows 11, RAM of 16 GB, and an OS of 64 bits.

I'm attaching a screenshot of how it looks.

Can somebody help me with this one? Thank you!

Hi Mike!

Yes! I tried re-installing Finale but got the same result! And about the Safe Mode, I don't know what it is and don't know how to do it!

I could look up about the Safe Mode booting!

Safe Mode rebuilds System paths and resets caches to Default. It is often the first thing one does when a recent install or update messes your setup. Apps rarely work in Safe Mode—you’ll need to reboot first.

Windows

Mac

On the Mac, many applications can boot up in their own Safe Mode by holding the Shift key on setup. This rebuilds paths within the app only.

Hi Mike!

I looked up the safe mode booting and found a web page that had a step-by-step process. I followed the whole process, restarted my laptop, and opened Finale as I normally would, but the result is the same. The program opens but it freezes on the opening screen before the Setup Wizard (as shown in the screenshot I shared before).

I'm afraid that it could be a problem with Finale itself, but I'm not sure.

Is there any other way I could try to find a solution?

P.S. Thank you for all the help!

Try disabling the print spooler. <-- likely the problem.

I am going to guess since you have Win 11 all your drivers are up to date? However, Windows isn't the greatest at telling you that so it may be a good idea to go to each driver website and check for an updated driver. Do this for both the sound and video card. Even though both sound and video seem to be working.

Hi Ernest!

I just tried disabling the print spooler and it worked! I checked on my laptop and everything's updated until today. I'm afraid I won't be able of using Finale and the printer at the same time. Do you know if there's a way?

P.S. Thank you so much for your help!

Once Finale is up and running you should be able to turn the print spooler back on. Try reinstalling the latest drivers available for the printer.

If you have more than one printer you will have to disable each one and restart Finale each time, enabling each one to find out which one, or all of them, has the conflict.

Sometimes getting Finale running and then enabling the print spooler is all you have to do.

You can have the same conflict with the sound driver. In that case try disabling all of the audio devices (Windows Audio). It is almost always one or the other or both of these. Try reinstalling the latest drivers available for the sound card.

Print spoiler on Windows… Wow, that’s an oldie but goodie — I remember those issues from doing Windows support 25 years ago and had forgotten that can still cause problems.

Good call!

Yeah its still there but it seems to be a bigger problem for Finale than other programs.
