version 27.3.0.137, Windows 10 and 11

Hello, I've done some digging for this issue, and while I did find a thread from a few years back detailing tempo issues I don't think it was the same problem that I'm experiencing.  It seems like the tempo for every piece is stuck at 120, and using the "global tempo" or what have you next to the playback button doesn't do anything.  This problem happens right away if I create a new piece with the wizard.  Somebody said something about using the expressions tool to set the MIDI value of the first tempo expression to 0, or something like that, but that does not apply as there is not an initial tempo expression that has been created.  I tried the "select all" and "clear midi data" solution, but that doesn't work since the "clear midi data" button is still unavailable after I select all.

Anybody have any idea what's going on?

That's not how it works.

Hi Mike!  Thanks for taking the time to reply.  So, after I click on "select all", I am still not able to select "clear selected items", as in, it does not become bold and selectable, but rather, it remains faded and non-selectable, does that make sense?

Ah, I figured it out, I needed to first click on the "select tool", or the "arrow selecter tool thingy" if you will, NOT the expression tool, then click select all.  Just posting that for anybody else who ends up having this issue.

Why is it that this started occuring now?  It never happened in the past when I created new pieces, is it a new feature where now Finale puts some kind of mandatory tempo governor on things that needs to be overidden?

Hi Robert,

That’s why the circle includes Edit at the top. Once in Edit mode, you can now Select All which highlights your entire document. After you Select All, the Clear Selected Items line now becomes bold. Click on that to bring up the Clear Selected Items screen. Anything checked will be cleared when you hit OK so make sure you uncheck everything else.

You’ll want to do a Save first. That way, if you accidentally clear to much, you can close the document without saving and restore it to the former state.

No but you may have it in a template.

Sure, I guess I have to click around a bit, it's definitely different now as I recently updated and I've been using Finale since the 90s.  Also I think things function a little differently on mac which it appears you're using?  I don't really have "edit mode", but regardless, I feel like I have a handle on what's going on, thank you!

Robert as Mike has alluded to and you may have gathered, but you might have one or some hidden expressions. I would at this point select all and clear out everything by starting all over. Let's fix the problem first.

This problem happens right away if I create a new piece with the wizard.

This bothers me and it certainly will not be corrected by the solution above. You are saying if you start a completely new document from scratch the tempo still will not change? If this is the case either trash your preferences and restart Finale or remove and reinstall Finale all together. Somethings stuck!

Hi Ernest.  So I experimented a bit more, and it seems to only be occuring when I create a new piece using the setup wizard.  If I choose "default document" then the issue is not there, so it must be something that is occuring during the process of using the setup wizard.

Robert are you setting a time expression when you set up a new piece? Try not doing that and see if that clears it up.
