Hi folks, I am enjoying a new Korg grandstage keyboard. My husband very kindly connected the Roland USB midi cable after reading instructions, and succeeded in setting things up so I can enter music using speedy entry. However, when I use the keyboard with the midi connected and finale turned on, the sound of the keyboard is distorted. When I turn off Finale or disconnect the cable, the keyboard returns to normal. If the midi cable is attached Finale is not open, the keyboard works fine. I am using a Lenovo tablet, Windows 10. Suggestions welcomed! Please let me know what other information I can give you for clarification.

Are you saying the distorted sounds are from the Korg's own speakers?

Is the MIDI cable the only connection between the Korg and your computer?

How are the speakers from your computer configured? (Are they connected only to the computer?)

The Korg is connected to a receiver, which is connected to speakers. The computer is connected to the Korg only through the midi cable. I will try using headphones only, circumventing the receiver, and see if the distortion is still present. Grandstage doesn't have built in speakers.

The computer is not directly connected to the speakers. The distorted sound is coming from the keyboard, but the distortion appears only when the midi cable is connected AND finale is open. I just checked to see if the distortion is still present when I use the headphones, and yes, it is.

My tablet is not connected to speakers. The speakers in the tablet have died of old age. (2016 machine, I think?) I hope I am being clear! I really appreciate your help!

I would guess your Korg is receiving some sort of MIDI interference. Unless your computer has an internal sound card, you are presumably converting the Korg's MIDI In to USB to plug into your computer.

If you are using a MIDI interface, check to make sure you are using the most up-to-date drivers from the interface manufacturer. Also Make sure that (if you are running both MIDI In and MIDI Out to the Korg) that the Korg's MIDI Out is plugged into the interface's MIDI In and vice versa. If you do not need to send MIDI info into the Korg (which you do not if you are using it for note entry), unplug the MIDI In on the back of the Korg.

If you are using a cable that is its own interface between MIDI plugs and a USB plug, again try unplugging the MIDI In at he Korg (if you haven't already), and if that doesn't work, you may need to check your MIDI cable/interface.
