when converting midi files, I keep having tuplet conversion problems. (See attached example).
On the left: what I am given
On the right: what I want to be given.

Is there any way to fix this without having to manually remove the tuplet, remove the dot, and reassign tuplet to the 16th notes for every occurrence?

We need more info from you:

- What version of Finale?

- Windows or Mac?

Before we can reproduce the problem, we need to know your exact steps.

Finale v27.3
Windows 10

Steps:

1. I manually draw/play into a sequencer/DAW (Reason).

2. I save/create/export to a midi file.

3. I then open the midi file in Finale.

The image on the left is how Finale interprets an 8th note followed by three 16th note tuplets.

The right side is what I want it to look like (as is standard practice when notating that rhythmic pattern).

Any help is appreciated!

1) Did you examine the contents in the MIDI file - before you opened the MIDI file in Finale?

I wonder how the tuplet is defined in the MIDI file. (perhaps 6 sixteenths in the space of 4 sixteenths?)

2) When you say

“3. I then open the midi file in Finale.”,

then I suppose that you are using

File menu > Open…

- right?

But we need to know your Finale settings relevant for opening MIDI files.

How is Finale reading tuplets in a MIDI file?

1. I believe I examined the contents via the fact that I entered an 8th note and then three 16th note tuplets (three in the space of one 8th note).

2. Yes

What Finale settings do you think are relevant for opening a midi file? Let me know what would help you figure it out and I will post them.

How is Finale reading tuplets in a midi file? I don’t really know, I’m not a computer programmer. The result of how Finale reads it is as previously stated… the example on the left.

Just guessing:

MIDI/Audio menu > MIDI File Options > Import MIDI File Options…

MIDI/Audio menu > Quantization Settings… (also click on the button More Settings…)
