My student has problems copying old files into her newer version of Finale, 27.3.0.137.  When she starts a new file and copies and pastes the old version into it, it comes up with huge dynamic marks.  How do we undo this?

Without more info than that we can only guess.

Take a look at the expression categories.

My guess is that the dynamics bring their own expression category with them, so that your newer version of the Finale document now contains two categories for Dynamics.

If I am right, then you can fix the dynamics in two ways:

1) You can edit the imported category.

2) You can move the imported dynamics to the newer document’s original Dynamics category, and then reset the dynamics to the newer category’s fonts.

Then, delete the (now empty) imported category.

If you need instructions on how to do the above steps, let us know.

Agree. However I am not sure anything except manually fixing each one will work. If we could see the file it would help a great deal.
