I'm on a Mac 10.11.6, and I just upgraded to Finale 25, but this has been an oncoming nuisance for me with other versions of Finale: the simple entry shortcuts work fine for note rhythmic values, but I've never been able to get any shortcuts to work for rests for some reason. Changing the shortcut definitions doesn't seem to help; I've tried numerous combinations. I can't even select the rests palate without clicking on it with the mouse. Thanks for any suggestions. Larry

How about making the rest palate visible by default? That's how I always set it in Preferences so that both are visible. I'm not at my Mac so I can't just go to it in 2014.5—I might not buy F-25 till next week.

You can also enter a note of the appropriate length and then press the "R" key to convert the note to a rest.

Thank you very much for this help Mike Halloran and J Adrian Verkouteren! I wasn't aware of either of these tips and am now using both of them. Also, I'm sorry to take so long to respond; I just saw the replies today. I created a "Finale List" smart folder a long time ago and I forgot about it until I noticed it today. Both of your messages "smartly" decided they should end up in it!

Thanks again,

Larry

In 25, there's a glitch in bringing the Rests Pallette up for Default. You go to Preferences, check the box and Apply, click Done (same as 2014.5) but it doesn't actually show till you click on a note. Once you do have it showing, it is visible next time you open Finale 25.

It's a bug but a minor one. I see that the Help center has not been updated with this final step. It drove me nuts till I called support—the tech had to ask around till someone gave him the answer.

Not an option for me. I do everything one-handed so this (not being able to make Rests visible by default) was a deal killer for me using Finale 25. Glad to get it working!
