Can Re-wire be used to playback libraries in Logic?  For instance, I'm working on a piece in Finale and I would like to use an instrument sample in Logic just as I would using Kontakt.

That's not the function of Rewire. You can find the solution in the manual. Play over Midi outputs and use the Fiinale outputs to connect to Logic.

Not the way you want. You can set the MIDI outs in Finale  to trigger MIDI tracks in Logic and record that. I do this all the time in Digital Performer. As Bob mentions above, it’s in the manual.

 

The Apple instruments cannot be used by 3rd party applications outside of Garage Band, Logic and Main Stage.
