I bought Finale at the beginning of June and the past few days I have tried to download it to my Windows Vista. When I click on FinaleSetUp in the download folder nothing happens. I have also tried to download from Firefox and nothing happens. I have the disk as well and when I put that in nothing pops up on my computer. I'm wondering if this is a problem with my operating system or if I need to do something differently.

Thanks for any help!!

Hi Rachel

When you say click, are you clicking just once, or are you double clicking?

With the disk. If Autoplay has somehow been disbled, nothing will start automatically. You will need to open windows explorer, navigate to your DVD drive and start the setup manually.

And just on that, This may be a silly question, but is your computer equiped with a DVD drive or a CD-Rom drive. From what I can remember, Some Vista machine were still sold with CD Rom drives, that being the time when DVDs were still the 'premium' optical drive option.

The Finale disks are on DVD, not readable by a CD-Rom drive

I wasn't aware that the version of Finale available in June came on a DVD, only download and a thumb drive. Rachel, can you specify exactly which version of Finale you bought in June?

Also, if you bought the program from MakeMusic in June (and your system is 64-bit) you may want to contact MM directly to see if you can get a free upgrade to the just released Finale version 25 (unless you prefer the former version).

Hi Daz,

I've tried both- clicking once and twice. I also check Autoplay and made sure it was not disabled. There is a CD and DVD setting so I would think it would take the disk software. When I took the disk out today from trying again, this message popped up: "ShellExecuteEx failld: code 21. The device is not ready." Does this have anything to do with it?

Hi Jadrian,

The software I bought is 2014.5 Edition of Finale. If I got the 25 version would I still have the same problems?

Thanks!

Hi Rachel

Unfortunately, I don't think that you will be able to use Finale 25. The latest version of Finale requires at least Windows 7.
However, you should definately see if you qualify for a free upgrade due to buying Finale so recently.

As to your current problem

Try this.

1) Insert the DVD into your drive
2) Wait until the drive has stopped spinning/making a noise. Then, wait some more. The Finale installer is large and will take a long time to load, especially on an older machine. Give it at least 15 minutes. If nothing occurs, then try starting the installer manually
3) Open Windows Explorer and navigate to your DVD drive.
4) Double click on the finale installer (It should be called Finalesetup.exe)
5) Again, be prepared for a long wait. Go out an make a cup of tea/coffee/beverage of you choice.

Hopefully by this stage the installer screen will have come up. If there is still no success, contact MM customer support (Scroll to the top of this screen. next to you login name there is a button marked "submit a request"

Cheers...

Here is today's update: I waited a really long time the installation screen finally popped up! But then a widow appeared saying that my computer doesn't support the file. So I think I'm out of luck :(

Thanks anyway for all your help!

Hi Rache

According to MM, Finaqle 2014.5 should run on Vista.

I *really* suggest that you contact MM customer support to see if they can help you.

Do scroll up to the top of the screen, and next to your username, click on the "Submit a Request". They might be able to get you up and running.

Cheers...

I was instructed to uninstall my version of Printmusic 2014 by an agent of Finale's Support Team because I could not print.  When I attempted to re-install it, I got an error message with the code is 25003.  I have spoken with John and Austin about this issue to no avail.  Now I have paid for this product, but I am not able to use it.  What is my recourse?  or cn someone tell me why neither Printmusic nor Finale will install on my Window 10 computer.

I'm grasping at straws here, but if you were installing through the Chrome browser, try installing with Firefox or another browser.

Have you run a scan on your computer to check system and disk integrity. At very least restart your computer before installing.
