I'm happy to upgrade from 2011 to F25.  But here's the question: I"m just starting a composition DMA degree at University of Kansas in Lawrence and they have all the school machines running 2014.  I want to be able to work on the same piece on my home computer and school computer, will they be compatible?

Hi Charles

Yes.

Files created/saved by Finale 2014 can be opened directly by Finale 25

Files saved by Finale 25 can be opened by Finale 2014. Additionaly, Finale 25 can save files to Finale 2012 format.

A couple of things to remember though:

1) Files created in older versions of Finale opened in Finale 25 will have all expressions moved to the "Misc" category
2) Files created/edited in Finale 25 opened in Finale 2014/2014.5 will loose any new features introduced with Finale 25. For example, dashed slurs will disappear

Other than those two issues I am not aware of any problems in working with the two versions.

Cheers...

You should call MakeMusic sales and see if you can also authorise a copy of 2014 when you upgrade. When I had church and school positions, I found them very accommodating to my licensing needs. Worst they can say is no, right?

If you are on a Mac, you want to be running 2014.5 instead of 2014. The files are compatible but 2014.5 is the version that works properly.
