I understand that Finale 25 will no longer support scanning.  If so, is there any way to import a PDF or image so that it can be used as a score?  I play treble clef euphonium, and find that there are band arrangements that don't include a treble clef part.  Up to now, I've scanned the bass clef part into Finale and copied the bass clef part onto a treble clef.  It's a bit of work, but nothing like having to re-create from scratch.

I'm using Finale 2014.5 on Windows 10.

You can upgrade SmartScore Lite from 2014 to SmartScore X2 Pro for $199. This will allow you to scan and export via MusicXML. New licenses are available from resellers for not much more. Google is your friend.

There are similar apps from other companies. Without the tiff import/export supported by Finale in earlier versions, it probably doesn't much matter what you use with 25 as long as it supports the latest version of MusicXML.

I have a license for SS X2 Pro already so I haven't been shopping around and don't know what else is available.

Hi

If you own Finale 2014.5, just use the import feature in that. Once imported and converted, then save the file and open in Finale 25

In other words, do not uninstall Finale 2014.5 if/when you upgrade to Finale 25. Keep it around to use when you need to scan/import tiff.

Cheers...

Darrin Smith is exactly correct.  Reading this thread five years later, it's also true that Finale 26 doesn't accept an import scan of music and Finale 27 released this week. Luckily, since I purchased Finale through the years, the older versions are still downloadable (and I never deleted the older download of 2014). As long as the folder names change and don't remain only as "Finale" you can (re)install the 2014 release.  I used it last night to scan, then save. Then opened the V26 release and further edited. I do have the HDD space. So no extra charge for software I previously purchased.

Maybe. If so, on Windows. There is no MacOS over which you can install both 2014 and 27.

Mike,

True, when the software uninstalls or installs in the same folders.  I don't know Apple OS or programming any more (Basic in HS, Cobal and card readers in college) and learned most of my Windows Tech skills by osmosis and Google.

On Apple, can you install one release (such as the older one) using defaults, then rename the folder and the (Apple).exe file pointer to that folder, then install the second release (the newer one) using defaults again?  For my WIN software, Finale 2014 is here (C:\Program Files (x86)\Finale 2014.5) and Finale 26 is here (C:\Program Files\MakeMusic\Finale\26). So maybe this will work for WIN users with an older Finale version in their history.

2014 is 32 bit. It cannot run over MacOS 10.15 Catalina; it will neither run nor install over 10.14 Mojave. It will run (barely) over 10.13 High Sierra but I don't recall that its installer works—I tested but just don't remember. There are many threads over the last few years on this issue.
