Hi, Nancy,

Can you tell us more about what you're doing that doesn't work? Did you click on the "up" arrow in the Lyrics Box? What happened when you did?

(Note: I'm thinking working with Finale v. 25, and have never used Notepad 2012, so I may be totally off. I sympathize, though, since I've also had troubles with lyrics.)

Hi Eric.  Thanks for your feedback.  The lyrics box does not have arrows, it's just on and off.  The arrow appears on the cursor and you point the arrow to the note you want to put lyrics on.  I have my first verse in there, and when I point the arrow there again, it just highlights the first verse so that you could make changes to it.  I tried "enter" , which worked on another program, but all that did was to delete that syllable.   I was using a different program, and was frustrated because I could not get only one staff to come up to work with.  I am brand new at this, I always wrote out my music by hand,  and I am very frustrated!  Thanks again, Eric.

I'm afraid I don't know how to help. Please consider a support request, and if you can supply screenshots or a screencast. I think that will speed things up for you.

If you clicked the link I gave you and opened the section on lyrics, you'd see that Songwriter, PrintMusic, and Finale all offer unlimited verses.

I can't get pass one problem, before I see another.  Can't get this lyric to space correctly.  Any suggestions?

There are a number of ways to respace lyrics.

  1. Select the measure stack and press "4" (without quotes). Sometimes this works and is the simplest solution.
  2. Use the selection tool along with the down-arrow to move a measure or two to the following system to provide more space. (You might want to try this on a copy of the file if you are not familiar with the implications of this technique on subsequent measures.)
  3. The other approach would be to use the lyric tool (and the adjust syllables option) to right-click on the handle for the word sad and change the justification or alignment to "left" to move it farther to the right.

Now I can't get the letters to stay together in a word.  The word "nations" , finale is separating the "s" from nations.  How do I fix that problem?

Try printing out that page on a piece of scratch paper. The problem may only relate to screen resolution. Otherwise it may be the font you have chosen (but I don't think that's it.)

Another problem with lyrics.  I am working in aSAB grand staff.  I am putting lyrics in the middle of the three staves to save space avoid having words being repeated in every staff.  My problem is auto numbering. This is what happens.

okay here but I don't want it to start numbering again when I type words in the bass clef alone.

Starts numbering again. I don't want that.  How do I avoid this?

One way is to number the stanzas manually (add the number, period, and a hard space to the first syllable of the stanza) where you want them.

There is no “drop down.” In the lyric menu, choose Specify Current Lyric... From there, you can choose Lyric 2.
