I just upgraded to Finale 2016. I previously had 2012 with similar issues: Often times in 2012 when I'd play back a piece with multiple instruments, they'd start playing horribly out of tune and/ or tempo. 2016 version added to that the strange in-and-out  volume sound-- almost like it is under water or as if the sounds were canceling each other out. They each have their own bank--I thought that would help but no.

Any thoughts?

Without knowing anything about your setup, it's impossible to make a specific recommendation.

I would begn with the basics: turn Human Playback off. Disable any audio and dynamics plugins such as reverb, eq, delay and compression etc. Make sure that playback starts at the beginning of the file.

Of course, sorry.

Toshiba Satellite, Windows 10

16 GB Ram

64 bit x64 based processor

NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device

Playback does improve when started at the beginning of the file, but since when do we want to do that for a 10 minute piece each time?

The problem seems worse of course with more articulations. I have a cathedral effect on each bank. Perhaps doing a master effect through Garritan would be a better option...? Is this a known problem? I was hoping the newer version would have less of this issue...

thanks for your thoughts...

Yes, some effects sync up at the beginning of a file. If that's an issue, use something else.

So...lose your cathedral effect and any other audio plugins. Human Playback often conflicts with effects, too. Now add them back in one at a time and see what happens. Otherwise, find something in Garritan and see if you can make that work instead.

Focus on what you are trying to accomplish rather on how you would like to do it.

OK so I have updated the Conexant Smart Audio HD card, installed all the latest Windows updates and removed all effects. Still badly popping and cutting in and out. No other types of files sound like this so it is solely within Finale. All settings are at their defaults.

Any thoughts??
