Hello! I've finally made the jump from Allegro 98 (which has served me very well all these years and is still running on my Windows XP desktop) to Finale 2014.5 (now on a MacBook pro). The only problem I've found so far is when I take an older .MUS file (or a .MUS file converted to a .ETF file) from Allegro 98 and convert it to Finale 2014.5, in place of the time signature there appear questions marks. I thought about exporting the file to Music XML, but I'm having trouble with Java and it won't let me do that at the moment - another problem I'm looking into. I also tried to switch the time signature using the Time Signature Tool, but even in that window the time signatures all appear as questions marks. Anything I can do to fix this? Thanks!

This appears to be a font issue. Are you running the same font in 2014.5 that Allegro 98 used? If not, try changing the default font in 2014.5 and see if that does it.

 

This is solvable. I don't know Allegro 98 in Windows so I can't be any more specific.

Good to know, Mike. I'll check the default font. Also, I've copied the Windows XP font file and will look into downloading it onto my Macbook. I would have thought that Finale would just substitute another font (the Mac default) for the one that my old Allegro is asking for. I'll let you know how things turn out. Thanks so much!

Your copy of Allegro is 18 years old. Things change. Fonts get updated.

I took your suggestion and went to "Set Default Font" and reset the font for the old file to Maestro. Voila! The strange thing is that even though the old file's font was Petrucci, and Petrucci is one of the fonts found in the Macbook font folder, for some reason Finale 2014.5 doesn't translate everything correctly. Thanks so much for your help!
