When I choose the staff tool and select apply alternate notation I have 4 options listed (not numbered) but when I check the user manual I'm supposed to get a box that looks like this which has lots of options including what I need!!

What am I doing wrong?

Please tell us what version of Finale you are using. These look like Staff Styles in recent versions of the program.

Print Music 2014 which is both the version I have (or at least am supposed to have) and the user manual I was looking at online.

 

Have debated completely uninstalling and re-installing, but don't really want to do that.
