Hello,
I tried several times to use the new rewire system with Logic Pro to sync with a movie, but I realized it was almost impossible to change the notes on Finale, impossible to compose or orchestrate directly in Finale. In the former versions,  it was possible to open the film directly in Finale, do you know if you are going to reestablish this function in the next versions of Finale?

Thx in advance

No plans have been announced to bring it back.

Many are checking out Notion 6. The cross-grade price from Finale is cheap and the included orchestral sounds are nice. I can’t stand the workflow but it has a good movie window. MusicXML export from Finale is pretty smooth.

With regard to Mike Halloran's comments above. I also have 'Notion' but unlike him, I rather like the simplicity of note entry etc. which satisfies my needs. However, I have accumulated some experience with the 'Elements' version of Steinberg's 'Dorico' and for composing for movies and

video, in my view it leads everything else for dead, with accurate synch and what else it has to offer. Just an observation.

I am also impressed with many of Dorico's features; but in terms of sound output, Dorico cannot yet compete with the Finale / HP / Garritan audio output.

You will also find (as should be expected) that Dorico's XML export is not nearly as developed as its XML import, so exporting into Finale from Dorico will likely involve extra work.

I agree. Dorico has a way to go before it's ready for prime time.

Back to the Movie window — or lack thereof in this instance — I still recommend taking a look at Notion. The ease of use with VIs is impressive. The mixer makes it the most DAW - like notation app out there. Creating stems is easy. If Finale had that capability, it would be huge.

I work with a couple of clients whose primary notation apps are Finale and Sibelius. They come to me to prepare their projects for AV. Of course, they could spend the $79 for the crossgrade—they watch me work and see how easy it is. They don't have my con$iderable investment in VIs, though and $79 only gets you so much. Anyway, if the xml import isn't really clean, you have to edit. Let's just say that I'm not the only one who really dislikes the Notion workflow—I will never, ever use it to compose or edit otherwise.

Last night I had such a session with a friend who uses Sibelius. The MusicXML import to Notion was fairly clean, thankfully (glock in the wrong octave and a few missing ties—easily fixed). Just for kicks, I imported the same file into Finale 25 and there were more mistakes. I'm looking forward to getting 26 after reading that MusicXML handling is improved.

Since I produce video documentaries dealing with wildlife, in the wild, a functional video window is a necessity for me.Hence its importance. The most satisfactory video window, despite some of the collective wisdom expressed in reply to my first submission regarding it, is the rock-solid performance of 'Dorico' slaved to the video timeline. More than with any other product, I can create sufficient bars (Measures) to cover one of my short compositions (usually sub-ten-minutes since I produce my stuff in modular fashion), then go to any bar on he score, stop the play-head and find

myself in perfect synch, with even my sometimes vague future intentions. I have been able to do that with no other product, and now that I am getting the hang of working in 'Dorico', and am becoming used to its quirky ways, I find that it satisfies my needs admirably, and in a way no other notation software can. I admire Steinberg software generally, as I use quite a bit of it for audio editing etc. and each version of 'Dorico' seems to incrementally meet my expectations more fully. That said, I'd be quite happy using 'Finale', but for the lack of the essential (to me) missing feature......... Perhaps, for that symphony whose themes I have been sitting on, for years!
