Windows 11 Finale 27

I purchased the Dorico crossgrade last year but haven't dived in because - well, for the obvious learning curve hurdle but also because - Dorico doesn't do a particular thing that Finale does and which is essential to my work. That is synchronizing to external clock, as well as its other extensive MIDI capabilities which are the reason I chose Finale over all of the other standard notation packages in the first place.

Now I question whether it makes sense for me to move off of Finale at all, considering the shortcomings of the others, not to mention the limits to the time I can afford this passion of mine.

I'm using Finale on a Windows 11 computer and am frankly apprehensive that some Microsoft update will screw it all up since Make Music is no longer keeping up with that.

I have retained a Win 10 computer for another music device application that conflicts with Finale, so I imagine that I will need to move that application to Win 11 and Finale back to the Win 10 computer.

Will that even work, or will Finale balk? (Both are at the end of support.) Please advise.

And to the subject of this post:

What is to become of the online Finale User Manual when Make Music shuts down?

Appreciations, empathy, and regards,

JJMJ

As you are aware, Finale soon will not be supported whatsoever by MakeMusic, and it certainly will not be updated (hell, it was barely updated prior to last August's announcement). At some point, it will no longer be authorizable, and that might make it impossible (ie, it will) to run on a new CPU.

As far as the online manual, that's a question for MakeMusic to answer. I'm just a former Finale user who now uses that other software....

Thanks, David.

I think I'll go ahead and authorize on the Win 10 pc and then prevent further Microsoft updates so that those don't cause problems with Finale as they sometimes have in the past.

In fact, I think that also means the computer will have to be kept off the internet altogether for security reasons. Hopefully I can stay on local wi-fi. Hmm.

I took your suggestion and contacted Make Music.

Nick was very helpful and said that they will continue to be active in developing Make Music Cloud.(formerly SmartMusic) and will continue hosting the Finale User Manual for the foreseeable future.

He also directed me to this webpage where the HTML for the User Manual can be downloaded for offline access.

Wow - huge download - 2.2 GB.

It's in html format and searching is almost instantaneous on M3 MBP.

Thanks for posting the link!
