I have looked at many people struggling with this, some of whom have succeeded, but not yet for me. Reinstallation is a dead end for me, so I need to move the samples. ~/Library/Preferences/com.Garritan.CFX Concert GrandSA.plist lacked a <key>sample_dir<key>, whereas /Library/Preferences/com.Garritan.CFX Concert Grand.plist had
<key>sample_dir</key>
<string>/Users/Shared/CFX_Samples</string>
I moved CFX_Samples to an external drive (with no spaces in the path). I moved the resulting directory into terminal so I could cut and paste the path into the above string. I rebooted. I got the same error message I got when I tried reinstalling the application, then directing the samples to the external drive:

I tried putting the sample dir key and string into ~/Library/Preferences/com.Garritan.CFX Concert GrandSA.plist, rebooting, and got the error above. I created a symbolic link and received the same error.
These samples are large. It would be very nice to move them to an external drive. Thanks, Mike
