Since you are working on the part (and not one the score), I think that you should use the menu command “Apply Staff Style To >”.

The command “Use Selected Staff Style for Score and Parts” has a different use:

Where a staff style has been applied to the score only (not to the parts), and you need the staff style both in the score and in the parts, you can “update” the parts by selecting the region, and then choose “Use Selected Staff Style for Score and Parts”.
